Prix Jeunesse International – Day 5

Time for preschool shows and shorts at Prix Jeunesse International 2026!  Day 5 included screening and discussing the non-fiction shows and shorts for Up to 6-year-olds.  We also screened about half of the ‘Up to 6 Fiction’ shows.

One of the ‘Up to 6 Non-Fiction’ shows that resonated with Forest Calls was Adventurous Noah from Norway.  This episode focused on Noah, a 7-year-old boy, and his family, including his grandfather, as they have first-hand encounters with eagles.  This show encourages outdoor activities and to experience everything that is around us.

The afternoon featured another info session, “How to…reach the children’s audience?” This session was full of information about reaching children through different platforms from YouTube to traditional linear television.

One success story focused on ULTRA VILDT, a YouTube series for 9-12-year-olds with host Emil Poulson as he explores nature and does nature challenges in every episode. This series is designed to encourage outdoor experiences, citing that only 13% of children are in nature everyday, and 47% wished they played more outside than they currently do.

These shows and online platforms are showing us the continued interest and need for more media content on nature.

It is making me ponder how Forest Calls 2.0 materials can be used for a younger audience and how to keep the younger audience in mind with segments.
