‘Blink Critical Walk’

Our Guides
This ‘Forest Calls – Blink’ Critical Walk will be lead by Dr. Nick Koenig, Charles Turner Post-Doctoral Fellow, School of Environment and Sustainability, at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Ailsa Lipscombe, Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology (Affiliated Faculty in Anthropology and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies – WGSS), and Dr. Alex Dantzer, Taft Post-Doctoral Fellow, cultural anthropologist.
The basic idea is to use the walk as a form of urban ethnography where participants aren’t spectators: they’re paying attention to things that usually go unnoticed.
Our guides will offer three loose stops, each with a brief framing and a short prompt for people to reflect or respond to:
- Sound and Gentrification, followed by a 2-minute listening exercise. What do you hear? What’s absent? … Over-the-Rhine’s nightlife has been systematically displaced through noise regulation, and Blink’s crowds are a good entry point into that tension.
- The Body in the City – a sensory check-in. Does this space feel made for you? Whose body fits here? … Our guides will bring in some of the urban exposure research from their current work.
- Time – a short writing prompt. When did this neighborhood change for you or someone you know? Whose schedule is this city organized around? … Our guides will connect this to their research on how gentrification restructures time as much as space.
