Welcome to the Forest Calls week of public events, bridging Hawaiʻi and Cincinnati through an inspiring convergence of artistic expression, ecological conservation, and Indigenous wisdom.
From October 8–13, join us across the city for an engaging series of community presentations, guided field walks, the multidisciplinary live performance of “The Story of the ʻAkikiki“, and the interdisciplinary symposium, ‘Mauka to Makai / Hilltops to Rivers‘ – and much more!
Community Cultivation and Purpose
Just as tending a garden begins with working the soil beneath our feet and planting seeds for the future, Forest Calls is cultivated through the shared care, dedication, and creativity of an expansive community.
In his spoken-word piece, “Garden“, acclaimed poet and storyteller Kealoha – one of the featured artists collaborating on the live performance of “The Story of the ‘Akikiki” – reminds us that lasting ecological and cultural stewardship begins when we take responsibility for what we can nurture right where we are.
As Cincinnati gathers for this vibrant week of cross-cultural dialogue, and vital moments of connection, his words invite each of us to reflect on our own role in tending our shared living world and reconnecting to nature.
