“Mauka to Makai / Hilltops to Rivers” Interdisciplinary Symposium
Forest Calls’ “Mauka to Makai / Hilltops to Rivers” is an interdisciplinary symposium that brings together practitioners, scientists, and communities to reflect on biodiversity and the accelerating disappearance of living worlds. We welcome you to join us for all or part of the symposium throughout the day.
- Learn from respected elder and knowledge holder Sabra Kauka, who will give the keynote, followed by a critical dialogue about environmental sustainability through cultural practices and community engagement.
- Engage with scholars, conservationists, and knowledge keepers from Hawai’i and Ohio in lightening talks from the Urban Native Collective, The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens, The Mill Creek Alliance, the University of Cincinnati, and more!
- Participate in a short training on building partnerships, offered by The Nature Conservancy.
This symposium is hosted by the School of Communication, Film and Media Studies, and the School of Environment and Sustainability.
