Last day at Prix Jeunesse International 2026! Day 6 included screening and discussing the fiction shows for Up to 6-year-olds. There were two shows in this category that had a focus on nature and the outdoors: 1) Wow Lisa from Chile, and 2) Microterrestrials: The Fantastic Explorers from Chile. Wow Lisa uses stop-motion animation and shows eco-friendly living with a neighborhood of anthropomorphic animals. Microterrestrials followed the adventures of two bugs as they met different animals in the Valdivian rainforest.
The afternoon featured two more info sessions, 1) “How did you do that?”, and 2) Keeping it Human: AI Tools and Kids Media. We also had the last moderators’ report.
For the first session, we learned about directing children and the complicated nature of working with children in particularly sensitive topics.
In the second session, we learned so much about AI tools and use of AI in media production courses at university. An innovative use of disclosure forms was presented where students report their AI use and for which functions for assignments. It was also made clear that AI is not permitted for use in all classes.
And, of course, the Prix Jeunesse ended with the awards ceremony and gala – the Oscars of children’s educational television. I had the pleasure of presenting the award for the Gender Equity Prize. This year, The Brave Swing from Taiwan won the award with a show that centered sexual abuse of boys and the strength of mothers to report and stop abusive relatives.
And that’s a wrap from Munich!
Looking forward to Prix Jeunesse International 2028 where the theme will be Love Nature! Animals, Environment and their meaning for children.
