Day 1 – And so it begins…

We’ve been planning.  We’ve been waiting.  We’ve been hustling.  And now it’s time.

At the airport when I went to pick up our guests, I found a penny.  See a penny, pick it up, all day long you’ll have good luck.  I picked it up in hopes of good luck – and I hope it continues to bring us luck and love all week!

Today, all our guests arrived from far away places – from Hawaii, from California, and from Canada.  For the next few days, we will share time and place together, holding space for reflection, exchange, nature, and culture.

It has only been a few hours, but we have already begun our work – in the studio – making recordings for the live performance and over the dinner table – talking through schedules and fine tuning plans together.

Work and play, play and work. This week will be filled with both. And I’m excited to see how much we will grow and learn.

The learning for me has already begun.  I have learned the special connection of community – making new friends, renewing old acquaintances, and reuniting with loved ones.  I have heard observations about Cincinnati and Kentucky that made me think twice about what I consider ordinary and everyday.  I have also begun to see how meaningful this is to everyone involved.

I’m looking forward to the days ahead.  Tomorrow will be spent at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens and we’ll have our first glimpse of the Patricia Corbett Theater.  Sharon will lead a master class for CCM dance students with the Ka’Imi dancers and chanters.  And we’ll top off the evening with our first visit to BLINK.

It is time.  Let it begin.
